Richard (Ric) Ruggieri, the culinary maestro, self-taught guitarist, and eternal optimist, has embarked on his greatest adventure yet, leaving this world with a legacy as rich and flavorful as his famous dishes. Ric, a devoted family man and connoisseur of life's joys, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 4th, 2024. In accordance with his wishes, Ric will be cremated and friends may greet the family on Sunday, March 10 from 2-4pm at Owens Funeral Home (101 N. Elm St, Champaign). There will be a memorial service at 4pm at the funeral home with Rev. Dave Ashby officiating.
Born on April 7, 1960, in Sherman, Texas, Ric seasoned the world with his zest for life. As a chef, he whisked up culinary delights that warmed the soul. Outside the kitchen, Ric's creative spirit knew no bounds. With a camera in hand, he captured life's precious moments through his unique lens. With his guitar, he harmonized with the universe. Ric had a great sense of humor however his “dad” jokes were not as sharp as his knife skills. A true foodie, he kneaded laughter into every conversation, reminding us to savor the sweetness of life.
He is survived by his wife, Kerri Ruggieri; his three daughters, Laurie McFarland, Lindsay Ruggieri, and Adana Saucedo; his three sons, Seth O’Connell, Zachary Ruggieri, and Jacob O’Connell; and his three grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Alex Ruggieri; his sister, Veda Ruggieri Scholle; and many nieces and nephews. Ric was preceded in death by his father, Alexander Ruggieri; mother, Irene Ruggieri; brother, Carlos Cordova; and sister, Laura Santhanam.
Though Ric has taken his final bow, his spirit lives on in the memories he created and the hearts he touched. Let us celebrate his life with a feast of laughter, music, and love, knowing that he has left the world a tastier and more joyful place. In place of flowers, the family kindly requests that you raise a glass and toast to Ric, sharing a memory and a meal with loved ones in his honor.
