Denise Phelps

 Denise Dene Phelps, 73, of Traverse City, MI (formerly of Atwood, IL), passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Munson Medical Center.

There will be a visitation on Friday, February 27 from 11am-12pm at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N Elm St, Champaign, IL. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 at the funeral home. Immediately following the service, Denise will be laid to rest beside the love of her life, Big Rock, at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign, IL.

Denise was born on December 22, 1952, in Flint, MI, a daughter born to Elwood and Hallie (Holbrook) Moore.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rocky Phelps Sr., and 1 son, Amos Allinger.

Those left to cherish her memory include 4 children, Kristie Isaac of Mahomet, Les (Missi) Allinger of St. Joseph, Amy Allinger of Traverse City, MI and Rocky Phelps, Jr of Urbana; 2 sisters of Michigan, Diane and Colette; 19 grandchildren, Brittany, Levi, Skyler, Jordan, Dade, Kaden, Olivia, Hallie, Clayton, Sierra, Noah, Emyah, Avah, Rainah, Payton, Gaberiel, Zayden, Keelan and Israel; and 3 great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Kingston and Elias.

Denise proudly served in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. She then went on to work at the US Postal Service, where she eventually earned her retirement.

In her spare time, she loved to paint and shared this hobby with her children and grandchildren. Denise was known for being an incredibly forgiving and loving person. She was an avid online shopper, loved meeting new people, and spending time with all her family, in both Illinois and Michigan.
