Shirley Wimmer

Mrs. Shirley J. (Fowler) Wimmer, 88, of Urbana, Illinois passed peacefully on February 18, 2026 at 7:10 p.m.

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 4-7 p.m. at Owens Funeral Home 101 N. Elm St, Champaign.

To allow family time to arrive from out of state, her funeral service will be Friday, March 6, 2026, at 12:00 noon, at Owens Funeral Home. Burial will be at Locust Grove Cemetery, Philo.

 She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Thomas M. Wimmer Jr., her father, Arnold Clyde Fowler, and her mother, Corba Iona (Gibson) Fowler.  She and her husband were life and business partners. Together they raised four children, had a private detective agency, and remodeled homes.

Mrs. Wimmer is survived by her siblings, Jeanetta Fowler Nicholson and her brother, Thomas Clyde Fowler. She is also survived by her children, M. Joan Wimmer Cushman, Tracy J. Wimmer, Theresa J. Wimmer and Thomas M. Wimmer III. Her grandchildren, Samantha Wimmer Howland, Thomas M. Wimmer IV, Sidney J. Wimmer, Matthew A. Renfrew, Ashley Stinson, Bradyn T. Wimmer and Troy F. Cushman. Her great grandchildren, Tyrus Watson, Marceline Wimmer, Esmeralda Wimmer, and Shakai Cushman.

Shirley enjoyed art, writing, and crafts. She also attended Parkland College and graduated with a degree in Construction Technology. Her passions included faith, family, and home, and she put those above all else in her life. She was an inspiration to those around her.

Isaiah 41:10 Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be anxious for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
